The Thailand Graduate Fashion Week Awards 2008 is all set to sizzle the youth with its great fashion and design at Central World from today until July 20.

Conceptualized on the theme of ‘Make it Bloom’, the event will feature 25 catwalks by about 50 national and international designers and led by world-acclaimed designer Teerabul Songvich and graduates from Kingston University, London.

Fashion fads can grab the opportunity to check out their favorite fashion institute on Education days while designers and fashion gurus will take their turn in having discussions at Fashion Talks.

Those interested in shopping unique items will also find an array of products on display by students of design school.

Graduate Fashion Week has brought about a miraculous change in the industry by encouraging young people to take fashion seriously. This in turn has led to an increase in the number of design schools springing up in the country.

Most of the students believe that this event is a great starting point especially because it provides participants with an exposure required to gain experience and enhance competency.

Fashion Week 2009 Jul 20, 2010

2009 fashion week at different places especially on the fashion capitals was exciting. Though traditional belief says that fashion is youth-obsessed,the fashion weeks this year wronged the age old myth.

Let us take a look at the grand fashion weeks of London,Paris and New York.

London Fashion Week

The fashion elite were left mouth-opened at the London Fashion Week this year. Running from a week this fashion industry event offered a huge scope to the fashion designers and fashion houses to showcase their new collections. The buyers got a good idea about the latest trend in the runaway show.

London Fashion Week indicated what’s “in” and what”s “out” this season. The event once again proved why it has been so popular in London for twenty five years. The event gave a glimpse of the fashion wears the designers are going to produce for the coming months. It also allowed the retailers to take their time to incorporate the design wears into their retail marketing.

Peter Pilotto awed the audience with his fantastic collection. Paul Smith, Aquascutum and Vivienne Westwood add new dimension to the event. Christopher Kane’s Autumn/Winter collection was a must see. Ossie Clark took the crowd to a nostalgic world with the outstanding designer wears.

Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week showcases the silhouette that is going to define the 21st century fashion trends. Paris has always gained the first position whenever a comparison took place among New York,Paris,London and Milan and the style adapted by the French designers perfectly justifies the position of City of Lights.

The designers once again successfully merged pageantry and artistry. In spite of drawing inspiration from every field they remained precise in the move they make. The perfect cut and tailoring of the designer wears were real treat to eyes leaving the audience spell bound.

The feathered visors of Givenchy, the furry motorcycle helmets of Karl Lagerfeld, the wooden birdhouse and golden bananas on the model’s heads designed by Bernhard Wilhelm all contributed to the making of Paris Fashion Week a grand success. Comme des Garcons,Maison Martin Margiela and Gaspard Yurkievich took the event one step ahead.

New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week showcased a set of garments that left the audience spell bound. The use of unusual material made the audience even more curious about the outfits. The designers have given their best to create numerous versatile dresses but the focus was on the80′sstyle. Oversized cocoon is back this season.

Many designers stuck to black and whit. But then others offered visual treat with their hot pink or citron colored fashion wears. The nontraditional trend revealed in the New York Fashion Week is going to be a big hit for the year. To get a glimpse of the new style check out the Narciso Rodriguez,Oscar de la Renta and Michael Kors shows.

The shows of Ralph Lauren,Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs presented a new idea altogether. The contrast between the somber tones with shine and metallic finish make the shows even more exciting.

The fashion weeks of the three fashion capitals of the world set the latest fashion for the coming time.

Fashion Fiesta Wrapped in a Week Jul 20, 2010

Creative sensational from different parts of the world taking style, beauty and definition of fashion to its edge, promotional linchpin of a multibillion-dollar industry, I am talking about nothing else but Fashion Weeks. Fashion weeks are hallmarks of fashion industry to rollout the new season feel in fashion. They generally last up to a week allowing fashion designers, artists and fashion houses to display their latest collection. It hallmarks next seasons “in” things, that’s why it is very important for buyers, media, celebrities and entertainment industry who take that fashion among the general public.

The most famous fashion weeks are held at Fashion Mecca Paris, Milan, London and New York. Since the new millennium fashion weeks are held in different parts of the world to put the local fashion on the world map and making a packed fashion calendar throughout the year. A refreshing sense of national identity and pride has emerged from the achievements of fashion sector – something that was otherwise traditionally been restricted to feats of sporting prowess, adding that its benefits go well beyond the fashion world (Emling 2006).

Fashion weeks are held several months in advance giving chance to designers, media and buyers to preview the trend for the next season. Fashion weeks are bi-annual events; the fashion weeks conducted between January and March are called “fall fashion weeks” whereas the one conducted in September through November are called “Spring Fashion Weeks”. Some fashion weeks can be genre-specific, such as a Miami Fashion Week (Swimwear), Prêt-a-Porter (ready-to-wear) Fashion Week, Couture (one-of-a-kind designer original) Fashion Week, Palm Springs Fashion Week (Resort Collections) and Bridal Fashion Week.

History

Omission of fashion week history would be curious at this point of time. Let me throw some light on that. Edna Woodman Chase—former editor of Vogue organized “Fashion Fete,” in 1914 to benefit the war-relief effort which is often apocryphally called the first fashion show ever. By the 1920s, the fashion show had gone mainstream. Early shows were often more theatrical than those of today.

The Return of London Fashion Week May 14, 2010

Provisional dates for London’s fashion week are 16-23 September 2007. Fashion weeks tend to be held several months before the season, which gives press and buyers a chance to preview designs in advance. The last London Fashion Week was a huge success, bringing more than £100 million worth of business to London. Expectation is high for the next event, which many hope will be just as successful.
What We Can Expect

It’s the first fashion week since top stylist Isabella Blow died in May. As Blow kick-started the careers of both Philip Treacy and Alexander McQueen, we’re expecting to see many tributes. Models such as Lily Cole, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Agyness Deyne are being lined up to sashay down the catwalk in the latest designs.

The last London Fashion Week in February 2007 was a huge success with £40 million worth of orders and a huge £24 million of media coverage. Following London Fashion Week will be London Fashion Weekend, which takes place at the Natural History Museum and offers visitors the opportunity to purchase designer clothes at sales prices.
Next Season Predictions

We’re eagerly anticipating next season’s trends. Will next summer prove to be the season for you to dust off your capri pants? Who knows!
The Designers

Luella Bartley will show her Spring/Summer 2008 collection at fashion week, which also coincides with the launch of her new flagship store in Mayfair. It’s unclear whether Vivienne Westwood is showing this year but if she does, we never fail to be impressed by the grand dame of fashion.

It was Marc Jacobs in February but who will be the talk of Fashion Week in September? Fashion week favourite Hussein Chalayan should be returning with a collection that promises a blend of simplicity and volume. There are also rumours that John Galliano is returning to London with another one of his spectacularly outlandish collections. Inspired by the French Revolution, one of his last shows featured a realistic-looking guillotine and so we’re can’t wait to see what he’ll do this time. Hot young designer Henry Holland is also one to look out for. His cheeky House of Holland label is guaranteed to raise a smile with bitchy slogan t-shirts and androgynous styling. Needless to say, we’re expecting Julien McDonald to dazzle us with a glamourous Givenchy show.
The Fashion Industry and Model’s Health

Since the death of catwalk models Luisel Ramos and Ana Carolina Reston, fashion bosses have been under increasing pressure to ban size zero models. However, it’s unclear whether they plan to do this at fashion week. However, the organisers of Madrid Fashion Week 2006 banned models with a Body Mass Index below 18 and pressure is mounting on London Fashion Week bosses to do the same.

The Independent Model Health Inquiry has also found it “profoundly inappropriate” that young girls should be portrayed as adult women on the catwalk and have called for them to be banned from fashion week. However, it is unclear whether they will be. Lily Cole, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell all modelled before their sixteenth birthday but should they have been allowed to?
